Crispy and Flavorful: Dive into the Delight of Shrimp Tempura with this Irresistible Recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup ice-cold water
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Dipping sauce (such as soy sauce or tempura dipping sauce)

Instructions:

  1. In a deep frying pan or large pot, heat vegetable oil to a temperature of 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Gradually pour ice-cold water into the dry ingredients while stirring gently. Mix until the batter is just combined, and lumps are fine.
  4. Dip each shrimp into the batter, making sure it is evenly coated.
  5. Carefully place the battered shrimp into the hot oil, a few at a time. Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain crispiness.
  6. Fry the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Flip them halfway through for even cooking.
  7. Use a slotted spoon or tongs to remove the shrimp from the oil, allowing any excess oil to drain.
  8. Place the fried shrimp on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any additional oil.
  9. Repeat the process with the remaining shrimp, ensuring the oil temperature is maintained.
  10. Serve the shrimp tempura immediately with your preferred dipping sauce. Common options include soy sauce or tempura dipping sauce.

Note: For an extra crispy texture, you can double-dip the shrimp by repeating steps 4 and 5 before frying.

Shrimp tempura is best enjoyed fresh and hot. It can be served as an appetizer, paired with steamed rice and vegetables for a main course, or added to sushi rolls for a delicious twist.
