Poori
Pooris are deep-fat fried bread made from unleavened whole-wheat flour that originated in the Indian subcontinent. It is eaten for breakfast or as a snack or light meal. It is usually served with a savory curry or bhaji, as in puri bhaji, but may also be eaten with sweet dish. Pooris are loved by all, especially children.
Ingredients:
Wheat flour/ Atta- 2 cups
Rava/ Semolina- 2 tbsp.
Salt – to taste
Oil- 1 tsp.
Water – as needed for kneading
Oil- for deep frying
Preparation Method: Step by Step
- In a bowl take the atta, salt and rava. Mix well.
 - To the above mixture add water little by little to make a soft, smooth and tight dough.
 - Knead the dough for a while to make it soft and smooth.
 - Then add a tsp of oil to it and knead well.
 - Make small lemon sized balls of the dough.
 - Take a ball apply little oil to it and roll it into circular shape using a rolling pin. It should be neither too thin nor thick.
 - Heat oil in a kadai.
 - Once oil is hot, add one poori.
 - Press the poori with a spoon to puff up.
 - Once the poori puffs up, turn it over.
 - The poori should be golden in colour.
 - Remove the poori into tissue paper to remove excess oil.
 - Fry all the pooris in the similar way.
 - Pooris are ready. Serve them with any curry of your choice.
 
Suggestions:
- Adding rava will help the poori to puff up and make it crisp.
 - The oil should not be very hot. The temperature should be maintained.
