Wholesome Delight in Minutes: Instant Beetroot Thoran Recipe


  • 2 medium-sized beetroots, cut it in to small pieces.
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • Salt, to taste


  1. Heat coconut oil in a pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Then, add cumin seeds and curry leaves and sauté for a few seconds.
  2. Add cut beetroot to the pan and mix well. Cook for about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and cover the pan. Allow the beetroot to cook for about 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add grated coconut and chopped green chili to the pan. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
  5. Cover the pan again and let it cook for another 5 minutes, or until the beetroot is cooked through. Make sure to stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Once the beetroot is cooked and the flavors are well combined, remove from heat.
  7. Serve the beetroot thoran as a side dish with rice or roti.

Note: You can adjust the spiciness of the thoran by adding more or less green chili according to your preference. You can also try with grated beetroot as well.
